Cold and Flu Relief* Pineapple Kale Coconut Smoothie

If you or someone you love is sick right now, do them a huge flavour favour and share this recipe with them ♥ It will really help and it tastes yumaroo!
Having a cold and being sick totally sucks! To tell you the truth, I haven’t been sick in over a year now since going through my detox. Even though Caleb and I have travelled a ton, been on planes with sick people and circulating air for hours, we even sat on greyhound bus for a few hours with someone hacking up a storm next to us, we just don’t catch that stuff anymore.
So, if you’re sick right now and you want to get better fast. Here’s a green smoothie that will kick that cold to the curb and help you cut your sick days down to 0 if you make green smoothies part of your daily routine.
Ingredients:
  • 2 Cups Fresh Pineapple
  • 1 Frozen Ripe Bananas
  • 1 Cup Coconut Milk (you may need a bit more if you want a thinner consistency)
  • 2 Tbsp Shredded Coconut
  • 1 Cup Kale
Instructions: Put all ingredients in the Vitamix with the frozen bananas at the top, pour the liquid in and blend on high for about 30 seconds or less and serve.

5 Rawesome Facts about this Smoothie

1. Pineapple is loaded with nutrients and enzymes including Bromelain which helps loosen up and dissolve mucus. Pineapple is useful for fighting bronchitis, chest congestion and the common cold or flu.
2. Pineapple flushes toxins out of the system and can be useful for cleansing the body during a time of illness.
3. Kale is also high in Vitamin C and contains anti-oxidants that fight free radicals in the body keeping your immune system strong and providing relief if you are suffering form the cold or flu.
4. Coconut can help relieve a sore throat, eat the meat or drink the milk.
5. Banana can be used to help soothe an upset stomach and is even useful if you are suffering from diarrhea.

Raw Orange Smoothie

2 medium bananas
2 medium oranges
1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice (or water for a less orangy-taste)
1 tablespoon fresh orange zest
1 tablespoon coconut oil

1. Get your orange zest off an orange before you peel it. The easiest way to get fresh orange zest is to simply use a clean orange peeler to shave a bit of orange peel off. Collect 1 tbsp's worth.
2. Peel your oranges well using a knife. Cut off most of the white rind so that you just have nice, glistening oranges with very little white rind left.
3. Add all ingredients to your high-speed blender.
4. Blend well.
5. Enjoy your raw orange smoothie!

Rise and Shine Smoothie

Did you wake up on the funky side of the bed? Feeling a little blah or queasy? Not as voracious an appetite as usual? Maybe you need a dose of rise and shine smoothie to get you back on track. Worked for me. :)

Rise and shine smoothie
  • 1 to 3 teaspoons fresh ginger root, washed, scraped, chopped (I used two.)
  • 1-1/2 heaping cups frozen mango pieces (mine were from Trader Joe's)
  • 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional but good)
  • almond milk (about 1-1/2 cups)
  • water (about 1/2 cup)
  1. Add the ginger root and mango to a VitaMix or other high-speed blender.
  2. Add enough almond milk to process, and thin to your preferred consistency with additional milk or water. (I used about 1-1/2 cups of milk and 1/2 cup of water, but your blender may want less or more. You may prefer your smoothie thicker or thinner.) Blend until creamy-smooth.
  3. You can add a few drops of liquid stevia or other sweetener of your choice if you prefer a sweeter smoothie, but I found it plenty sweet as is.

Read more about ginger, it's medicinal uses and contra-indications, here and here.

Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie

Eating raspberries can help you maintain a healthy weight in several ways. This fruit is rich in insoluble fiber which provides a sense of fullness, and helps prevent you from overeating.  The carbohydrates in this fruit are slowly released, which prevents sudden increases and decreases in blood-sugar levels, which helps you control hunger and cravings. Raspberries are also low in calories and are naturally fat free. One cup of raw raspberries has only 64 calories, but it is packed with 8 g of fiber.

Ingredients:
Directions:
  • Place all ingredients in blender or food processor
  • Blend until smooth and add more milk if too thick.

1/2 cup frozen peach slices
1/2 cup frozen pineapple

treat that truly tastes nothing like it looks.”
